It is the things that we value in our hearts  that counts. 本来 that counts 是修饰 the things，表示“有价值的东西”，但是由于 things 被强调，定语从句就被句子主谓部分we value in our hearts 分隔】

 

另如：

 

This is the car that has the flat tire which I bought last year. 这就是那台我去年买的有扁平轮胎的汽车。【定语从句which I bought last year 被另一个与先行词关系更近的定语从句that has the flat tire 分隔。】
