北 京市，简称“京”，古称燕京、北平，是中 华 人 民 共 和 国首 都、直辖市、国 家中 心城市、超大城市，国 务 院批复确定的中 国 政 治中心、文化中心、国 际交往中心、科技创新中心，中 国历 史文化名城和古都之一，世界一线城市。
Beijing, a city in northern China, is the capital of the People's Republic of China. Beijing borders Hebei Province to the north, west, south, and for a small section in the east, and Tianjin to the southeast.
Beijing is China's second largest city in terms of population, after Shanghai. It is a major transportation hub, with dozens of railways, roads and expressways entering and leaving it in all directions.
It is also the focal point of many international flights to China. Beijing is recognized as the political, educational, and cultural center of the PRC, while Shanghai and Hong Kong predominate in economic fields.
Beijing is one of the Four Great Ancient Capitals of China. It will also host the 2008 Summer Olympics.
