英语中的动词片语，也叫做短语动词，一共有四种：
介系词动词（不可分开）。
介系词动词相当于一个及物动词，支配宾语，宾语只能放在介系词后面，不能放在动词和介系词之间，在被动语态里，整个短语动词作为一个整体看待，介系词不能漏掉，如：
We must look into the matter immediately.
The store was broken into by thieves last night.
Anger preyed upon her for weeks.

laugh at 嘲笑
短语动词（可分开）。
短语动词由动词加副词构成，有的相当于一个及物动词，有被动语态，可以支配一个宾语，如果宾语是人称代词，代词放在动词和副词之间，如果宾语为名词或不定代词，则可以放在短语动词的后面，也可以放在中间。如：
He picked the book up. He picked it up.
又如：
work out 制定出
win over 说服
wipe out 消灭
turn out 赶出来，结果是
turn on 打开
有的相当于一个不及物动词，不能支配任何宾语，无被动语态。
The plane took off despite the fog.
The war broke out in 1980 and lasted eight years.
又如：
break down 出故障
come to 苏醒
drop out 退出
give in 让步
knock off 停工
动词+名词+介系词。
这类短语动词为及物动词，需要跟宾语，有非谓语形式和谓语形式。它也有被动语态。这类短语动词的名词前可以有定语，为了强调，可以把名词置于句首或者把介宾结构置于句首。如：
Those houses were set fire to by thieves.
No fault could be found with the paper.
To this she didn't pay the slightest attention.
We must make rational use of the land.
The president got off the car and shook hands with the ministers.
又如：
catch sight of 看见
get rid of 除去
make fun of 取笑
take care of 照顾
take part in 参加
短语介系词动词（不可分开）。
短语介系词动词由动词加副词加介系词构成，支配宾语的时候宾语放在介系词后面，不可分开，如：
Please keep out of her affairs.
The old law must be done away with.
The old should keep up with the times.
又如：
catch up with 赶上
come down with 患
date back to 追溯到
get along with 与……相处
go on with 继续。
