free from, free of这两个短语都可作“没有…的”或“免于…的”解。区别在于用法，含义，后缀词读音的不同。
一、用法不同。
free from用得更普遍。在danger, pain, trouble, difficulty, influence等词前惯用free from；而在charge, rent, duty等词前惯用free of。例如:
1）Not very many imports are free of all duty.
全部免税的进口货不很多。
2）He offered to supply her with another clock free of charge.
他答应免费再提供她一只钟。
二、解释不同。
free from只表示不受； 免于； 没有，而free of有时作“摆脱…”,“离开…”解。例如:
They like living in a village, free of crowds and noise.
他们喜欢住在乡村里,远离人群和噪音。
三、后缀词读音不同。
free from的英式读法是[friː frɒm]，美式读法是[friː frʌm]。
free of的英式读法是[friː əv]；美式读法是[friː əv]。
free from 与free of的区别：
1、free from 及物动词，不受(免于，没有)，后面接的是负面的东西，一般较抽象化。
例句：
People in there are free from want and fear。
生活在那里的人民可免于匮乏及恐惧。
This city is free from thieves。
这个城市没有盗贼。
Free from traditional social or moral constraints。
任意的不受传统的社会或道德限制的。
2、free of 免于，后面接的一般是具体化的东西。
例子：
The streets have been swept free of leaves。
街上的落叶已打扫乾净。
He was free of the house。
他可以自由使用那房子。
Don't interrupt him，he's been writing away all morning and likes to have a long period free of other considerations。
别打搅他，他已不停地写了一上午了。他喜欢有个较长的时间不受其它事情的干扰。
后面接的是负面的东西,一般较抽象化Examples:
1. People in there are free from want and fear.
生活在那里的人民可免于匮乏及恐惧。
2. This city is free from thieves.
这个城市没有盗贼。
3. Free from traditional social or moral constraints.

4. The hill is completely free from trees.

5. A judge must be free from prejudice.

6. You must take the most scrupulous care to keep the wound free from the dirt.

7. When her son returned she was at last free from anxiety.

8. He leads a life (which is) free from care.
