not only... but also ...的意思是不仅...而且（也）...
使用时采用部分倒装。
eg：Not only has he a first-class brain but slso he is a tremendously hard worker.(他不仅有头等聪明的脑子，而且在工作上很能吃苦。）在这句话中but 的前面也可以加逗号。
注：使用时also可以省略但不改变句子的意思。
如： When he learned that I not only loved poetry but was wrtting it, we found a kinship.(当他发现我不仅喜欢诗歌，也会写作时，我们发现找到了知音。)
但是but 不可以省略。
