The Red Line Sax Quartet is comprised of students from the Eastman School of Music, a school of the University of Rochester and America's "Hottest School for Music" according to the 2008 Kaplan/Newsweek How to get into College guide. Since the group began playing together in the Spring of 2008, Red Line has made a historic sweep of top prizes at America's most reknowned chamber music competitions, winning 1st prize in the 2010 North American Sax Alliance and Plowman competitions, grand prize at the 2010 Chesapeake and Coleman competitions, a Gold Medal at the 2009 Fischoff competition, and 1st prize at the MTNA chamber competition. In addition, they have made their orchestral debut alongisde heralded saxophonist Branford Marsalis and the Alexandria Symphony Orchestra. RLSQ was recently given Eastman's John Celantano Award for Excellence in Chamber Music a second time, the only group in the school's history to receive such a repeat honor. Today, the Red Line Sax Quartet is one of the world's only chamber music groups to perform full programs from memory, making their live performances uniquely engaging and communicative. Their 2008-2009 season will showcase the quartet's verve and artistry in performances around the United States and Asia, sharing music from as early as the Renaissance to the most adventurous and cutting edge literature of the present day.
