先说结论，不是的。
IgE在免疫学的教材中，介绍的最多的就是介导了I型超敏反应。实际上，除此之外，IgE还肩负着其它重要的生理功能，这些生理功能主要就是通过调理和中和作用实现的。
抗寄生虫。
近些年的证据显示IgE实际上是和嗜碱性粒细胞和肥大细胞共同进化的，这种演化最初的目的就是抗寄生虫，主要是消化道寄生虫，例如血吸虫等。流行病学调查显示，感染曼氏血吸虫（1）、美洲轮虫（2），以及一些线虫（3）后，体内IgE水平会快速升高。
抗毒素
有研究显示IgE似乎是抗毒素的最后一道防线（4，5）。
介导I型超敏反应
