Dragon Boat Festival is observed in memory of Qu Yuan, a patriot poet. He was a loyal and admiring minister. He brought peace and prosperity to our country but committed suicide in the river at last because of slander. People row to the place where he died and dropped some glutinous dumplings in the hope of protecting his body from being eaten by fish. Over thousands of years, the festival is featured by having dumplings and dragon boat racing especially in some southern provinces with rivers and lakes.
