关于there be 句型的就近原则

我们小学老师说there be 句型讲究就近原则，但如果there后跟多个a......，a......时，要用there are。可是初中老师讲了一个题，后面跟的是4个单数名词，可是老师说填there is，我告诉老师是不是讲错了，他说下课可以去问问他。我就怀疑是不是自己小学笔记记错了，又回家翻出来看了一遍，不可能记错啊，老师还叫背下来了。我决定星期一再问问。可是我们老师也教了好几年了，不可能说错吧，谁能告诉我是怎么回事？在线等

there be 后加的名词为多个时，只要第一个是单数be就用单数。如
There is a book, ten pens and some pencils on the desk.
There are ten pens, a book and some pencils on the desk.追问

如果there后跟多个a......，a......时呢？比如There （ ）a banana,an apple and a pear on the table。后面的a banana,an apple and a pear不是并列主语吗？应该用are 吧？
