A woman's face with Nature's own hand painted,

Hast thou, the master mistress of my passion;

一、在第二句中有一个关键词master ，mistress
Hast thou, the master mistress of my passion;
有人译作、情妇兼情郎
在词典中有
Master a.统治的
Mistress
n. 霸主
词典中有一个例句：England was mistress of sea. 英国是海上霸主。
所以master-mistress 是统治的霸主。
这样的译法是符合诗意的。
二、第三句和第四句
A woman's gentle heart, but not acquainted
With shifting change, as is false women's fashion;
大多数人译作：“有一颗女人温婉的心，但没有反复和变换像女人的假心肠”。
1、第三句的后半句but not acquainted 很易懂，就是不易熟识，不易亲近，或莫测高深。怎么可以译成“但没有”。
2、不可将acquainted和第四句with…连在一起读成破句，实际上第四句是用来修饰第三句的heart的。
3、将shifting change 译成“反复变幻”虽然没有错，但应注意修辞。女性对周围事物和别人的情绪态度比男人敏感得多，处事小心谨慎，这些都是女性的长处，因此用“多愁善感”比起用“反复变幻”色彩是不一样的。
4、第四句的后半句as is take women’s fashion译作“女人的假心肠”就离原文太远了。应是“虚幻的女人的容妆”。
在英国上层社会，是“lady first”的社会，怎么说“女人假心肠”，就是在今天，这样的译法也是对女性的不尊重。
