One possible version:
Dear Sir / Madam,
I learn from your newspaper that 40 volunteers are being recruited to help the victims in Ya'an. I want to give them a hand.
After the earthquake, I saw many kind people on TV come to the rescue. They were at the risk of losing their own lives regardless of the constant aftershocks. I was really moved and wanted to be a volunteer like them. I am 19, a senior school student from a poor mountainous family. From the primary to high school, I often covered several kilometers of mountainous path to school, which built up my health and also made me brave in face of difficulty. I have also learned how to give first aid. So I think I'm fit for the job.
If I am accepted, I'll try my best to relieve the pain of the victims.
Yours faithfully,
Li Hua
3. A。分析句子结构可知“_____ I got stuck”为定语从句,修饰先行词traffic jam;又根据固定搭配get stuck in(被困在……)
5. C。it’s convenient for / to sb. ……
6. D。give out, use up, run out 都可作“用完”讲,区别如下:give out 为不及物短语动词,常只用物作主语;use up 为及物短语动词;run out 为不及物短语动词,故选D项。take up(从事,占据)不符合语境。
10. A。 Why not 为什么不呢;No way 绝不;Keep cool保持冷静。
