other 其余的；另外的，做形容词时，修饰单数名词时指“另外的”，修饰复数名词时指“其余的”；如：I am afraid I have to stay with you tonight because I have no other place to go.恐怕我今晚要和你呆在一起了，我没别处可去。
another 和the other都可作形容词，也可以作代词，表示“除此以外，另外一个”。但是：another表示的“另一个”是不确定的，指三者以上的另一个，the other是两者之间的“另一个”。如：Could you bring me anotherpiece of cake?你能再给我拿一块蛋糕吗
