cost、spend、take都可以表示花费的意思，但是同样都是花费的意思，这三个动词的用法是不一样的。
动词cost源于拉丁文costare。它的用法一般是花钱，主语为物品，当然cost的主语也可以用形式主语it，这时的真实主语实际上是后面的动词不定式，偶尔也可以用动名词作cost的主语。如：
The computer cost me four thousand dollars.
It cost me thirty dollars to fix the computer.
Fixing the computer cost me thirty dollars.
动词spend源于拉丁文expendere，它可以表示花钱或花时间，它的主语一般是人，后面跟介系词on，后接名词表示“花在……上面”的时间或金钱，但是如果后接动名词，介系词则要用in，即spend some time or money in doing sth.，当然介系词in可以省略。如：
Mother used to spend all Saturday in baking beans and steaming brown bread.
He spent a lot of money on books.
动词take一般表示花时间，主语可以是人或事物，当然take的主语也可以用形式主语it，这时的真实主语实际上是后面的动词不定式，偶尔take还可以用动名词作主语，如：
It takes me two hours to get to the airport.
Caring for my child takes me a lot of time.
Getting to the airport takes me two hours.
